The Orchard began as a project concept for my IT Capstone Experience course in Fall 2006. Working with Rich Palmer, another IT student in my class, we worked over the course of the semester to develop a business plan and prototypes for a financial literacy consulting firm. Our goal is to address the increasing problem of the negative spending rates of Americans through a dedication to social and fiscal responsibility.

Social responsibility involves creating exciting educational programs that drive young adults to succeed. Then, by giving them better practical savings tools, they can use their knowledge to enable positive financial futures. Providing these tools and lessons online, in a universally accessible manner, is the main social driver for the Bank of Growth. It allows the lessons to be available to children and young adults of all economic conditions, and aims to impact a largely underserved market.

Fiscal responsibility is directed towards long-term savings and growth. Providing options that allow parents to maximize returns based risk levels is a proven investment method. However, we are putting a new twist on the image of finance that simultaneously allows parents to better utilize their money while drawing in the fascination of their children - a new and potentially profitable approach.
